In memory of L/Cpl Stephen Anderson of Staffordshire Regiment. Murdered by the IRA on May 29 1984, our wedding anniversary, whilst on duty in Crossmaglen Northern Ireland.
He was a loving and caring young man who had had a tough childhood. He loved having a baby, although he didn't get to see her much and was excited about our new baby that he never got to meet.
He loved serving in the Army and loved our life together, he had so many plans for our futures, sadly none of them ever came to fruition due to his untimely death.
He was murdered by the IRA whilst out on foot patrol when he stood on a landmine, he was killed instantly. No one has ever been sought or brought to justice for this cowardly act and that has been one of the hardest things to cope with apart from losing Steve obviously.

My Darling Husband

Steve how I wish you were still here with us. Your death was such a shock and will always to continue to be so. I have been told I am a bitter widow, which I find strange, how else would you be when your love has been taken so suddenly, so tragically and so young, away from you and your 2 gorgeous daughters.
You will always live on in our hearts as long as we are alive.
Love you always and forever

I have continued to think about Steve over the years, particularly when I take a quiet moment of reflection on 11 November each year. He and I were good mates in B Company in Gibraltar and Colchester. We would spend hours playing chess; I only managed to beat him once (I think he let me win that one as well!). He was pretty smart - served in the Intelligence Corps before a transfer to The Staffords - and had much to live for. He loved Jennie very much and I remember visiting them in Colchester (after I had left the Staffords in November 2003). They were both very excited about raising their (soon to be) family together.

A number of us was on the ground that day when Steve was murdered in front of our eye's only a short distance from us, the emotions that you feel last with you a lifetime.........WHY ?..........is the first word of so many questions that we all have asked following Steve's tragic loss of life that day.

My Love

26 years today the cowards took you away from us and also today would have been our 28th wedding anniversary. I miss you every second of every day. I wonder what you would think of your girls whom you never got to know and meet properly or at all. I hope you would be so proud of them as I am.
Wish things could have been different and we could have lived our life together as planned.
Miss you every second of every day.
love your wife

Memories of a brave man and brave men

Hi Steve. I type this on the 29th of May 2010,the 26th anniversary of your much-mourned passing. As I do so, on our television I can see wreaths being laid on Dunkirk's beaches, tributes to more brave men who gave their lives or survived true horrors in the service of their country.

Exactly a week ago as I write this,my friend Tania and I were walking the inaugural "Walk To The Wall" at the National Memorial Arboretum, raising funds for that wonderful place. Created to honour the memory of the courageous men and women who have fallen doing their duty for the United Kingdom since the Second World War,it was an honour to walk for that cause. Lit by blazing sunshine, we were proud to contribute to the upkeep of the Arboretum and the moving Memorial which bears your name and those of so many other brave soldiers and the fallen from all the Armed Services.

May you rest in eternal peace, Steve, remembered always by the many whose lives you touched, all too briefly.

With love,
Nadine

As Christmas has got nearer I've been trying to find a time when I could come to visit your resting place again Steve, but the crazy pace of life, and now the winter snow, has kept me from climbing the hill to the St.Peter's.

So I've come here to light a simple candle in your honour and quietly remember you this Christmas,as I have so many Christmasses before. May your family find solace at this bittersweet season.

Rest easy,brave soldier.

Love Nadine xx

With you in spirit...

Alas I've come to read your latest tribute too late Jennie. If I'd known about the NIVA Remembrance service sooner I would have been there to support you and Steve's comrades in honouring him and his fellow fallen.

As it is, there are only a few minutes until that service starts and I have signed up for other commitments. Rest assured, however, that I shall be with you in spirit at the National Memorial Arboretum, I am sure you will all do Steve proud as you lay your wreaths.

I shall be thinking of you all, and especially of Steve, and will fulfil those commitments I spoke of wearing my supportoursoldiers.co.uk Union Jack T-shirt. It has always been my instinct to back our armed forces to the hilt, but ever more so since Steve was so tragically taken and especially poignant now, when so many more young men and women are losing their lives or suffering terrible injuries on our behalf.

God bless you and your family Jennie and all Steve's loyal comrades and friends. He will always be loved and never forgotten.

I was the person who took and developed the photo's after stephens tragic death, I have never had the chance to mourn the loss of my friend steve, until someone pointed me in the direction of this web site, i would have liked to have gone to his funeral but never had the chance, steves memory will always be with me.
